Yet many hikers end up visiting the same handful of trails while countless quieter routes remain overlooked. The weather can change quickly in the mountains though, so carrying extra layers and checking forecasts remains important.

What makes these lesser visited paths special is the sense of discovery they provide. You round a corner expecting another pleasant view and suddenly find yourself standing above a hidden valley or beside a quiet alpine meadow with nobody else in sight. Those are often the moments that stay with you longest after the hike is over.
